About Cara de Espelho

Cara de Espelho is a distinctive Portuguese musical project that unites some of the country’s most influential artists from celebrated bands such as Deolinda, Ornatos Violeta, Gaiteiros de Lisboa, A Naifa, and Humanos. At the heart of this supergroup is Pedro da Silva Martins, the acclaimed songwriter known for his evocative work with Deolinda and collaborations with artists like Ana Moura, António Zambujo, and Lena d’Água. His poetic lyrics and compositions provide the emotional core of the project.

The rich instrumental landscape of Cara de Espelho is shaped by Carlos Guerreiro, renowned for his intricate arrangements and ties to Gaiteiros de Lisboa as well as legendary Portuguese musicians like José Afonso and Fausto. Nuno Prata’s dynamic bass lines, drawn from Ornatos Violeta, intertwine with Luís J Martins’ guitar expertise—whose experience includes working with Deolinda, António Zambujo, and Cristina Branco—and Sérgio Nascimento’s rhythmic percussion, forged through collaborations with icons such as Sérgio Godinho and David Fonseca. The lineup is completed by the unmistakable voice of Maria Antónia Mendes from A Naifa and Señoritas, lending a powerful and unique presence to Cara de Espelho’s sound.

Musically, Cara de Espelho blends traditional Portuguese folk influences with sharp social commentary and urban narratives.
