About Ozark Henry

Belgian musician Ozark Henry, born Piet Goddaer on April 29, 1970, in Kortrijk, has established himself as a pioneering figure in contemporary pop and alternative music. Son of classical and jazz composer Norbert Goddaer, Piet’s early exposure to music inspired him to master piano and saxophone from the age of six, later adding electric guitar during his teenage years. Alongside his brother Jan, he formed the rock band Church of the Nemesis, which was later renamed Heather O’Rourke, reflecting his early penchant for unconventional artistry.

Adopting the Ozark Henry name in 1995, Goddaer launched his solo career with the critically acclaimed debut album "I’m Seeking Something That Has Already Found Me" (1996), a work inspired by David Bowie’s theatricality but initially met with modest commercial success. His breakthrough came with 2001’s "Birthmarks," propelled by hit singles like "Rescue" and "Sweet Instigator." This album achieved platinum status in Belgium, marking Ozark Henry as a major presence in the European music scene.

Ozark Henry continued to evolve his distinctive sound—characterized by lush orchestration and introspective lyrics—through collaborations with notable Belgian artists such as Sarah Bettens and Geike Arnaert, including their joint work on the TV series soundtrack for *Sedes and Belli*. With albums like "The Sailor Not the Sea" (2004) and the chart-topping "The Soft Machine" (2006), Ozark Henry secured his reputation as one of Belgium’s most innovative and respected songwriters, blending pop sensibilities with alternative depth in a timeless body of work.
