About Kenny Larkin

Kenny Larkin, born in Detroit in 1968, is a seminal figure in the city’s third wave of techno, known for masterfully blending the rhythmic swing of Chicago house with the experimental drive of Detroit techno. After completing military service in the late 1980s, Larkin was inspired by influential Detroit pioneers like Juan Atkins and Derrick May, whose mentorship and radio broadcasts fueled his passion for electronic music production. He quickly emerged with groundbreaking early 1990s singles such as "We Shall Overcome" and "Integration" (1990s), released on Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva’s Plus 8 label.

Larkin’s signature sound combines soulful melodies with precise, hard-hitting beats, setting him apart alongside contemporaries like Jeff Mills and Carl Craig. Over the years, he has released music on prestigious labels including Warp, R&S, Buzz, and Peacefrog Records, earning acclaim across American and European techno scenes. During the late 1990s and early 2000s, Kenny Larkin took a notable break from studio work to explore a career in stand-up comedy, while continuing to DJ. His return to music production in 2004 marked a significant resurgence with fresh material on Peacefrog.

Today, Kenny Larkin remains an influential innovator, seamlessly bridging Detroit’s techno heritage with forward-thinking club sounds that continue to inspire electronic music fans worldwide.
