About Suuns

Montreal-based experimental rock trio Suuns have built a distinctive sound by blending dark electro, dissonant art rock, and hypnotic indie rock into a rich, immersive sonic tapestry. Formed in 2007 by guitarists Ben Shemie and Joe Yarmush, Suuns soon added bassist Max Henry and drummer Liam O’Neill, initially performing under the name Zeroes. Their debut release, "Zeroes QC" (2010), produced with Jace Lasek of the Besnard Lakes and released on Secretly Canadian, marked the beginning of their critical acclaim and touring alongside notable acts like the Besnard Lakes and Land of Talk.

Suuns continued to evolve their sound with the Polaris Music Prize longlist-nominated "Images du Futur" (2013), expanding their blend of electronic minimalism and art rock. Their adventurous spirit led to a collaboration with Radwan Ghazi Moumneh of Jerusalem in My Heart (2015), mixing Arabic influences with their signature electronic textures. With producer John Congleton, Suuns embraced denser electronic elements on "Hold/Still" (2016) and deepened this direction on "Felt" (2018). After Henry stepped back from full-time duties, the band shifted toward moodier, ambient tones on "The Witness" (2021), their debut on Joyful Noise and a product of 2020’s isolation.

In 2024, Suuns released "The Breaks," recorded partly remotely with Shemie in Paris. This album showcased their ongoing innovation through sampling, loops, and studio experimentation, breaking from their earlier no-overdubs approach. Throughout their career, Suuns have remained committed to pushing creative boundaries, carving out a unique niche in experimental rock that continues to captivate listeners worldwide.
