About Blackwater Holylight

Blackwater Holylight is a Portland, Oregon-born band known for their compelling fusion of heavy psychedelia and atmospheric beauty. Originally grounded in the moody ambiance of the Pacific Northwest, the group relocated to Los Angeles three years ago, exchanging the region’s gloom for California’s radiant sun. This pivotal move inspired a fresh creative surge that culminated in their fourth full-length album, *Not Here Not Gone* (2023).

Their signature sound defies traditional riff-driven heavy music by favoring swirling waves of shoegaze guitars and ethereal synthesizers that ebb and flow with hypnotic grace. Blackwater Holylight masterfully balances menacing riffs with lush melodies, layering dense, orchestral textures beneath haunting, siren-like vocals. Drummer Eliese Dorsay encapsulates their dynamic duality by describing songs as embodying “the predator” or “the prey,” highlighting the band’s fluid navigation between strength and vulnerability.

*Not Here Not Gone* stands as a testament to this contrast—shifting tension and mood without simply growing louder or heavier. Blackwater Holylight’s richly layered sound challenges conventional heaviness, delivering a sonic experience that is at once terrifying, beautiful, and mesmerizing. Their evolution continues to captivate listeners who seek music that explores the delicate interplay of light and dark, confidence and uncertainty.
