About Simian Mobile Disco

Simian Mobile Disco, a British electronic music duo formed by James Ford and Jas Shaw, emerged from the ashes of their earlier band Simian, which combined harmonic vocals with Krautrock-inspired rhythms. After Simian disbanded, Ford and Shaw reinvented themselves in 2007 as Simian Mobile Disco, quickly making a mark with their debut album "Attack Decay Sustain Release." The record featured the standout single "Hustler," establishing them as innovative producers within the electronic dance music scene.

Known for their evolving sound, Simian Mobile Disco expanded their sonic horizons with their 2009 follow-up, "Temporary Pleasure," showcasing collaborations with vocalists such as Beth Ditto, Alexis Taylor, Chris Keating, and Gruff Rhys. Their 2012 album "Unpatterns" took a more experimental turn by minimizing vocals and placing modular synthesizers at the forefront. Pushing creative minimalism further with the 2014 release "Whorl," they recorded the album live near Joshua Tree National Park using just one synthesizer and one sequencer each, capturing a raw, organic feel.

Marking a decade of innovation, they issued a curated "Anthology" compilation in 2017. Their fifth studio album, "Murmurations" (2018), drew inspiration from the hypnotic flight patterns of starling murmurations, blending ethereal vocals from Hackney’s Deep Throat Choir with immersive electronic textures designed for both headphone listening and powerful club sound systems. Through constant reinvention and boundary-pushing production, Simian Mobile Disco has secured their place as one of the leading forces in British electronic music.
