About Other Half

Other Half have established themselves as a compelling force within the UK’s DIY punk scene, known for their distinctive fusion of post-hardcore energy influenced by the legendary Dischord Records, sharp indie rock sensibilities, and subtle nods to classic rock traditions. Their music is marked by vivid, slice-of-life storytelling that captures the complexities of youth and adulthood with candid honesty. Released through the respected indie label Big Scary Monsters—a home to renowned acts like American Football and Cursive—Other Half’s third album, "Dark Ageism" (2023), completes a loosely connected trilogy that began with "Big Twenty" (2020) and continued with "Soft Action" (2022).

"Dark Ageism" delves into the paradox of entering one’s thirties while still grappling with the impulses and frustrations of adolescence. The album paints a nuanced picture of a “personal dark age,” where existential concerns, economic pressures, and social inertia clash with the band’s enduring passion for raw, heartfelt punk rock. In an era fixated on conventional success and social mobility, Other Half confront the anxieties surrounding the perseverance of a punk band beyond its early releases. Yet, despite these challenges, the band remains committed to crafting honest and unfiltered music, driven by an irrepressible love for their sound and message. Through this evolution, Other Half continues to captivate audiences with their thought-provoking lyrics and dynamic, expressive rock, solidifying their place in contemporary punk’s evolving landscape.
