About James Brute

James Brute is the musical alter ego of James Steel, the talented songwriter and former frontman of the acclaimed East London band The Brute Chorus. Since embarking on his solo career in 2014 with the haunting debut single "Bury Yourself," James Brute has carved out a distinctive sound that fuses psychedelic post-blues with cinematic folk-noir. His evocative songwriting dives deep into primal human emotions—love, loss, and desire—interweaving ancient archetypes with modern realities. This blend creates a timeless yet urgent atmosphere marked by a loose, heavy vibe.

Steel’s debut EP, *Lost Soul Music* (2019), established his solo identity, followed by the 2023 double A-side single "Ring of Roses//The Garden," recorded with Sean Woodlock and mixed by Olly Betts at Hackney Road Studios. After relocating from London to Hastings in 2023, James Brute reignited his creative spark through intimate, unplugged performances that highlight the raw, personal nature of his work. Backed by a close-knit ensemble of long-term collaborators, his live shows reflect a stripped-down energy that amplifies the emotional intensity of his music.

Looking ahead, James Brute is preparing his first full-length album, *Move To The Ghost*, expected in autumn 2026. This anticipated release promises an atmospheric journey through dreamlike reminiscence and bittersweet farewells, solidifying his place as a compelling voice in contemporary alternative music.
