About Washington Brasileiro

Washington Brasileiro, born on November 15, 1971, in Manga, a small town in northern Minas Gerais, Brazil, rose from humble origins to become a distinguished name in the forró music scene. Moving to São Paulo as a teenager in search of new opportunities, he began his musical career at 22 with the band Califórnia Rios. This experience helped him refine his craft and deepen his appreciation for northeastern Brazilian rhythms, which would shape his future style.

Driven by his passion for forró and inspired by friendships with fellow northeasters in São Paulo’s vibrant cultural milieu, Washington embarked on a solo career after his bandmates showed little interest in focusing on this traditional genre. His self-titled debut album, released in 1998, featured songs shaped by his early live performances and fan requests, establishing him as a fresh voice in the genre.

Over the years, Washington Brasileiro has recorded ten studio albums, continually evolving while staying true to the heartfelt, danceable spirit of forró. His lively and approachable stage presence is captured in three widely acclaimed DVDs, produced by Califórnia Produções and distributed nationwide by MD Music. Particularly beloved by younger audiences, his performances blend playful charisma with musical talent, making Washington Brasileiro a lasting figure in Brazil’s forró community and a key ambassador for this vibrant cultural tradition.
