About New Orthodox

New Orthodox is the artistic project of Nicholas Merz, a versatile multi-instrumentalist based in New York. Renowned for its distinctive fusion of minimalist repetition and bold experimental textures, New Orthodox crafts a soundscape that is both introspective and innovative. Drawing on a philosophy that emphasizes restraint and the deliberate use of space and silence, the project creates thoughtfully structured compositions that explore the subtleties of human emotion and existence.

Through intimate live performances and carefully produced recordings, New Orthodox invites listeners into meditative, atmospheric environments where every note—and absence of sound—carries weight. This nuanced approach challenges traditional song structures, transforming simplicity into profound sonic statements. The project's music resonates deeply with audiences seeking authenticity and emotional depth in contemporary independent music.

New Orthodox's commitment to blending insightful lyrics with inventive sonic exploration sets it apart in a crowded musical landscape. By balancing emotional resonance with experimental ambition, Nicholas Merz has established New Orthodox as a compelling voice that continues to push the boundaries of minimalist music, offering listeners an immersive experience that mirrors life’s quieter, reflective moments.
