About Ian Maksin

Ian Maksin is a trailblazing cellist and composer known for his captivating tone and innovative approach that expands the cello’s role far beyond classical traditions. His acclaimed 2017 album, "Zaria," presents an eclectic fusion of folk influences from Armenia, Georgia, Iran, Belarus, and Macedonia. Alongside original compositions, Maksin weaves in styles ranging from tango and flamenco to Balkan rhythms, shamanic beats, and Slavic pagan chants. The album also honors legendary musicians such as Jacques Brel, Bill Withers, and Russian rock icon Boris Grebenshchikov.

While Maksin maintains strong roots in classical music, he boldly embraces cross-genre experimentation, seamlessly blending jazz, blues, rock, and global sounds. His cello acts as a unifying voice across diverse musical landscapes. This versatility is reflected in his collaborations with artists from Palestine, Morocco, Cuba, Pakistan, Japan, and beyond. Maksin’s dynamic artistry has led him to perform alongside internationally renowned figures like Andrea Bocelli, P. Diddy, Snoop Dogg, Gloria Estefan, and Barry Gibb. He has also opened shows for Sting with guitarist Dominic Miller, highlighting his appeal across multiple audiences.

Ian Maksin continues to redefine the possibilities of the cello, combining tradition and innovation to create a rich, global musical narrative that resonates with listeners worldwide.
