About Holy Wave

Holy Wave, formed by childhood friends Ryan Fuson, Joey Cook, Kyle Hager, and Julian Ruiz in El Paso, Texas, has spent over fifteen years honing a distinctive psychedelic sound that merges nostalgic influences with bold, forward-looking experimentation. Early in their career, the band crafted concise, melodic songs inspired by the whimsical spirit of *Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band* and the textured edge of The Velvet Underground. Rejecting long jams, they prioritized tight arrangements that captured dreamlike pop infused with rich psychedelia.

Rooted in El Paso’s vibrant DIY scene, Holy Wave’s members often traveled across the Southwest to experience touring acts overlooked in their home region, sparking a restless creative energy that would define their music and lifestyle. Their eventual relocation to Austin marked a turning point, ushering in a more adventurous approach to songwriting and colorful, layered instrumentation that expanded their sun-soaked sound into a broader palette of influences spanning past, present, and future.

The band’s evolution continued through the challenges of the global pandemic, during which they embraced isolation to push deeper into experimental territory. Their 2021 album, "Five of Cups," reflects this period of intense creativity, showcasing a fearless expansion of their psychedelic vision beyond warm nostalgia into vivid, imaginative sonic landscapes. Celebrated for blending introspection with adventurous soundscapes, Holy Wave stands as a unique and enduring voice in contemporary psychedelic music.
