About Ruby Rushton

Ruby Rushton, the visionary jazz quartet helmed by Tenderlonious, has been a cornerstone of London’s thriving jazz scene since their 2015 debut album, "Two For Joy." Their sound masterfully fuses the spiritual intensity of jazz icons like John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, and Yusef Lateef with dynamic afrobeat, Latin jazz, and hip hop rhythms. This blend evokes the vibrant energy of the 1970s jazz-funk era while pushing the boundaries of contemporary jazz.

The band’s breakthrough came in 2017 with two acclaimed releases, "Trudi’s Songbook: Volume One" and "Volume Two," both garnering award nominations and widespread support from influential tastemakers such as Gilles Peterson, Jazz FM, and Bradley Zero. These albums cemented Ruby Rushton’s reputation as innovators who balance soulful grooves with complex musicianship.

Continuing their evolution, the 2019 album "Ironside" showcased a deeper, more expansive sound. Now, over a decade after their formation, Ruby Rushton thrives as the flagship ensemble of the respected 22a label. Their latest work, "Legacy," captures a mature, confident group dynamic, delivering catchy riffs and immersive grooves with unparalleled freedom and cohesion. Ruby Rushton remains a driving force in progressive UK jazz, celebrated for their creative spirit and lasting influence on the genre’s underground landscape.
