About Roofman

Dutch singer-songwriter Roofman, born Thijs van der Meulen, has carved a distinctive niche in contemporary folk music with his blend of wistful melodies and gentle indie sensibility. His songs embody what he calls "the joy of sadness," transforming melancholy into warm, powerful reflections rather than despair. Drawing inspiration from both everyday moments and the deeper questions faced in early adulthood, Roofman’s songwriting is a spiritual experience—one where melodies emerge organically to accompany introspective, occasionally humorous storytelling.

Over the years, Roofman has built a solid reputation across Europe, performing extensively in the UK, Germany, France, Hungary, Spain, and the Netherlands. He has shared the stage with notable artists including Walter Martin of The Walkmen, Noah Guthrie, J.E. Sunde, Cari Cari, Eric Steckel, and Matt Perriment, further cementing his presence in the indie-folk scene.

His debut album, "Still The Mess I Was" (2023), was recorded at Hamburg’s acclaimed analogue Clouds Hill studio, capturing the intimate yet resonant quality of his music. Later that year, he released the "ATL EP" (2023), produced in guitarist Rhett Shull’s Atlanta basement studio, showcasing a more experimental, raw edge. Roofman followed this with "8 Songs from the Bathroom" (2024), an album that continues to explore his signature blend of melancholy and warmth, confirming his status as a compelling and enduring voice in modern folk music.
