About Minor Conflict

Bristol-based trio Minor Conflict has established a distinct niche by blending the urgency of post-punk with the atmospheric nuances of post-folk. Composed of Natalie Whiteland on harp and vocals, Josh Smyth handling bass and vocals, and Robbie Warin on trumpet, synthesizers, and percussion, they create richly textured soundscapes where Whiteland’s harp weaves seamlessly with Smyth’s driving bass lines and Warin’s inventive instrumentation. Their vocal approach oscillates between a detached monotone and ethereal melodies, lending an intriguing emotional range to their songs.

Minor Conflict broke through in early 2022 with their debut single "Office Block," a stark reflection on urban monotony named for its vivid portrayal of everyday city life. The track showcased a captivating interplay between Whiteland’s delicate harp plucks, Smyth’s sharp, observational lyrics, and a dynamic call-and-response structure. Critics often draw parallels between Minor Conflict and contemporaries like Squid and Pozi, with whom the band has shared several stages, cementing their place within Bristol’s vibrant independent music scene.

Building on the momentum of their acclaimed 2023 EP, "Bright Lights, Dead City," Minor Conflict are poised to release their forthcoming EP "Parallels" in January 2025 through PRAH Recordings. This new work promises to deepen their exploration of inventive lyricism and tightly controlled musicianship, further solidifying Minor Conflict as a compelling and evolving voice in contemporary British music.
