About TC & the Groove Family

TC & the Groove Family is a dynamic collective originating from Leeds, celebrated for their vibrant fusion of afrobeat, broken beat, jungle, jazz, and grime. Under the leadership of drummer Tim Cook (TC) and fronted by Sheffield lyricist Franz Von, the group’s diverse lineup—featuring horns, percussion, guitars, and bass—crafts an energetic and immersive live experience that balances euphoric highs with reflective calm. This musical tapestry reflects the varied cultural backgrounds of its members, promoting a message of unity through genre-defying sound.

Their debut album, "First Home" (2022), quickly attracted critical acclaim, securing airplay on BBC Radio 6 with champions like Jamz Supernova and Craig Charles, alongside support from Jazz FM, Rinse FM, and NTS. Esteemed tastemakers including Gilles Peterson and Don Letts have also endorsed their work, while respected publications such as Jazzwise and Songlines have highlighted their innovative contributions to contemporary UK jazz.

TC & the Groove Family have become a formidable presence on the live music circuit, selling out landmark venues like Leeds’ Brudenell Social Club and London’s Jazz Café. Their festival appearances span major events such as Glastonbury, We Out Here, Greenman, Shambala, Boomtown, and WOMAD. They have supported influential artists like Vieux Farka Touré, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, K.O.G, Nubiyan Twist, and Yussef Dayes, further cementing their reputation as one of Britain’s most sought-after live acts. Fueled by continuous momentum, the band recently completed their first UK-wide tour supported by Jazz North’s Northern Line initiative, reinforcing their stature as cultural ambassadors in the evolving jazz and fusion landscape.
