About Georg Kallweit

Georg Kallweit, born in 1966 in Greifswald, East Germany, is acclaimed as one of the leading Baroque violinists of his generation. Raised in a musically gifted family, his early talent was cultivated at a music school in East Berlin, followed by advanced studies at the prestigious Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler. Driven by a passion for pre-Classical and early Classical repertoire, Kallweit specialized in historical performance practice, mastering the Baroque violin and period instruments.

As concertmaster of the renowned Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, a trailblazing ensemble in historical music, Kallweit has played a pivotal role in shaping interpretations of Baroque masterpieces. His career extends beyond this leadership position—he frequently performs as a guest soloist with prominent groups such as the Finnish Baroque Orchestra, Lautten Compagney Berlin, and Ensemble Resonanz Hamburg, touring extensively throughout Europe, the Americas, and Asia.

Kallweit’s discography boasts over 60 recordings on prestigious labels including Harmonia Mundi, Alpha, and Pentatone. Key releases highlight his expertise, including the evocative album "Concerto: Venice – The Golden Age" (2014), Handel’s Op. 3 concerti grossi (2020), and the recent "Vivaldi: Sacro Furore" (2024), showcasing his collaboration with countertenor Carlo Vistoli. Additionally, his duo Ombra e Luce with lutenist Björn Colell focuses on early Italian Baroque music, with their self-titled debut released on Raumklang in 2010.

Beyond performance, Georg Kallweit shares his deep knowledge as an educator at music institutions in Leipzig, Weimar, and Helsinki, influencing the next generation of early music specialists. His enduring dedication cements his reputation as a leading figure in Baroque violin and historical music interpretation.
