About 1914

1914 is a Ukrainian blackened death and doom metal band formed in Lviv in 2014, coinciding with the centennial of World War I. Their name and artistic vision are deeply rooted in the Great War, serving as a powerful tribute to the conflict’s brutality and human tragedy. Combining elements of black metal, post-metal, and doom metal, 1914 crafts atmospheric and crushing soundscapes that immerse listeners in the grim realities of trench warfare. Their music uniquely weaves historical narratives with sonic intensity, incorporating vintage war correspondence, archival audio samples, and vivid imagery to evoke the chaos, despair, and futility of battle.

The band debuted with “Eschatology of War” (2015), establishing their reputation for blending punishing riffs with haunting interludes that transport audiences to the Western Front. They further developed this concept in critically acclaimed albums like “The Blind Leading the Blind” (2018) and “Where Fear and Weapons Meet” (2021), which showcase their evolving storytelling and relentless musical assault. 1914’s work stands out for honoring the fallen and exposing the senselessness of war through a compelling fusion of historical detail and metal’s raw power. Their evocative approach resonates strongly within the global metal community, positioning 1914 as a standout act that not only delivers intense music but also preserves and memorializes history through art.
