About Zola Jesus

Nika Roza Danilova, widely known as Zola Jesus, is an American singer, songwriter, and producer whose commanding contralto voice has resonated deeply since her emergence in 2009. Born in Phoenix, Arizona, and raised between Wisconsin and Arizona, she brings a rich multicultural heritage—Slovenian, Ukrainian, German, and Russian—that informs her unique artistic vision. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Zola Jesus has skillfully blended elements of synth-pop, dark wave, and art pop to create ethereal soundscapes marked by emotional intensity and haunting beauty.

Her music explores themes of pain, catharsis, and transcendence, with her voice cutting through the ordinary to reveal vulnerable, raw human experience. The 2022 album "Arkhon" exemplifies this evolution, combining pulsating beats with a fearless dive into inner turmoil and ecstatic surrender, pushing the boundaries of her sound. Following this, she released "Alive in Cappadocia," a live album capturing four mesmerizing performances that showcase her vocal power and dynamic stage presence in intimate settings.

Over the course of more than a decade, Zola Jesus has solidified her place in electronic and experimental music scenes. Known for transforming submerged emotions into visceral, beat-driven journeys, she remains a compelling force in contemporary music, continuously expanding the possibilities of her voice and artistry.
