About Abd al Malik

Abd al Malik, born in Paris on March 14, 1975, is a pioneering French rapper known for his unique fusion of hip-hop, blues, jazz, and slam poetry. Spending part of his early childhood in the Congo before returning to France in 1981, his multicultural background deeply influences his music and artistic vision. Abd al Malik first emerged in the late 1990s as the frontman of the rap collective New African Poets (N.A.P.), drawing inspiration from iconic figures like Gil Scott-Heron and the Last Poets.

He launched his solo career in 2004 with the album "Le Face à Face des Cœurs," which was released alongside the spiritual essay collection "Qu'Allah Bénisse la France," highlighting his commitment to blending music with profound philosophical and religious reflections. His follow-up album, "Gibraltar" (2006), earned him the prestigious Prix Constantin award and solidified his reputation as one of France’s most intellectually ambitious rappers. Subsequent albums such as "Dante" (2008) and "Château Rouge" (2011) further showcase his talent for merging socially conscious lyrics with genre-crossing soundscapes.

Beyond music, Abd al Malik is also an accomplished writer and film director, making him a multifaceted figure who bridges hip-hop with broader cultural and spiritual discussions in contemporary French society. His work continues to resonate as a thoughtful exploration of identity, faith, and social issues.
