About Msaki

Msaki, born Asanda Lusaseni Mvana in 1988 in South Africa’s Eastern Cape, is a renowned singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer celebrated for her soulful blend of folk, indie, and electronic music. A Rhodes University graduate, she artfully fuses her cultural heritage with contemporary sounds, singing in both English and Xhosa to create deeply personal and evocative musical narratives.

Her debut album, "Zaneliza: How The Water Moves" (2020), received widespread acclaim, showcasing her ethereal vocals and introspective songwriting that touches on themes of identity, spirituality, and social consciousness. Msaki’s ability to meld traditional African musical elements with modern folk sensibilities has positioned her as one of South Africa’s most distinctive contemporary artists. Beyond her solo career, she is an accomplished record producer, underscoring her comprehensive creative vision from songwriting through production.
