About Teresa Cristina

Teresa Cristina, a celebrated samba singer and songwriter from Rio de Janeiro, began her career in 1997 with a tribute show honoring the legendary sambista Candeia. She quickly gained recognition performing with the group Semente at Bar Semente in Lapa, where five years of live shows culminated in a double album featuring compositions by renowned Paulinho da Viola. Between 2002 and 2015, Teresa Cristina released nine solo albums and contributed to seven other projects, firmly establishing herself as a vital voice in contemporary Brazilian samba.

Her artistic journey reached new heights with a critically acclaimed trilogy celebrating samba icons. The series began with "Teresa canta Cartola" (2016), released by Nonesuch Records, followed by "Teresa canta Noel" (2017), a tribute to Noel Rosa produced under the guidance of Caetano Veloso. In 2015, Teresa made history as the first and only woman to receive the prestigious golden banner for best samba-enredo, awarded by Renascer de Jacarepaguá for the composition "Candeia."

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Teresa Cristina became a cultural beacon through her Instagram live concerts, captivating thousands by sharing the joy and richness of Brazilian music. Her accolades include the "Carioca do Ano" honor from Veja Rio (2020), multiple "Artist of the Year" awards from APCA and Prêmio Radio Globo Quem, as well as the Faz Diferença Award from O Globo and FIRJAN. Her recent duet with samba legend Martinho da Vila, "Unidos e Misturados," has surpassed 1.3 million views on YouTube, underscoring her enduring influence in Brazil's musical landscape.
