About Maceo Plex

Eric Estornel, better known by his stage name Maceo Plex, is a pioneering figure in the electronic music landscape. Born in Texas in 1978 and raised in Dallas before moving to Miami as a teenager, Estornel began DJing in 1993, initially exploring various styles under different aliases. Early in his career, he produced tech-house as Maetrik and delved into experimental electro and IDM with his Mariel Ito project.

In 2009, Estornel launched the Maceo Plex moniker, which marked a new chapter defined by deep house intricately influenced by Chicago and Detroit sounds. After relocating to Valencia, Spain in 2010, his music evolved into darker, more introspective techno and soulful house textures. His debut album "Life Index" (2011) established him as a major force, blending emotive depth with club-ready energy. The 2017 album "Solar" reflected this maturity further, drawing inspiration from personal milestones such as marriage and fatherhood.

Maceo Plex’s breakthrough came with the club anthem "Vibe Your Love," a fresh take on Stevie Wonder’s classic, released on the Crosstown Rebels label. Over the years, he has also gained acclaim for mixes in the DJ-Kicks and Fabric series, highlighting his versatility as a selector and producer. Collaborations with notable artists like Faithless, Johnny Jewel, and Liberty City have reinforced his status as an innovative bridge between underground techno scenes and broader audiences. Through releases on respected labels like Kompakt, Minus, and Crosstown Rebels, Maceo Plex continues to shape the evolving sound of modern electronic music.
