About Boney M.

Boney M. emerged in the mid-1970s as a groundbreaking Euro-disco group, masterminded by German producer Frank Farian. After his initial success with the single "Baby Do You Wanna Bump?" (1975) in the Netherlands and Belgium, Farian assembled a vibrant lineup of West Indian vocalists—Marcia Barrett, Liz Mitchell, Maizie Williams, and Bobby Farrell—who had been working as session singers in Germany. This charismatic ensemble quickly captivated European audiences, blending infectious disco beats with reggae and pop influences.

The group’s breakthrough came in 1977 with "Daddy Cool," which soared into the UK Top Ten, followed by a spirited cover of Bobby Hebb’s "Sunny" and the fan-favorite "Ma Baker." Their 1978 double A-sided single "Rivers of Babylon"/"Brown Girl in the Ring" became one of the UK’s best-selling singles ever and marked their only entry into the US Top 40. Their album *Nightflight to Venus* dominated the UK charts, further cementing their international appeal.

Boney M. continued to ride the wave of success with hits like "Rasputin," "Painter Man," and the seasonal classic "Mary’s Boy Child/Oh My Lord," while their 1979 album *Oceans of Fantasy* reached number one. Even beyond their peak years, the group’s legacy remained vibrant through various compilations and Farian’s 2017 reunion with Liz Mitchell for the festive album *World Music for Christmas*. Boney M.’s enduring influence on disco and pop culture secures their place as one of Europe’s most iconic music phenomena.
