About Deke Dickerson

Deke Dickerson, born in Columbia, Missouri, in 1968, is celebrated as one of the West Coast’s premier guitarists and a passionate ambassador of American roots music. Raised in a farming family with a deep appreciation for classic country, Dickerson’s early exposure to bluegrass legend Bill Monroe and blues icon Willie Dixon shaped his musical foundation. By age 13, he was already performing, soon honing a distinctive style that blends rockabilly, vintage country, surf, blues, and garage rock, all delivered with his trademark humor.

Dickerson launched his career with the surf and garage-rock band the Untamed Youth (1987–1993), which earned a dedicated cult following. After their disbandment, he co-founded the Dave & Deke Combo with Dave Stuckey, gaining acclaim in the mid-1990s for their rockabilly and hillbilly revival sound, notably on the 1995 album "Hollywood Barn Dance." In 1998, Dickerson formed Deke Dickerson & His Ecco-Fonics, releasing influential albums such as "Number One Hit Record" (1998) and "More Million Sellers" (1999) on Hightone Records. He also founded the Major Label and Ecco-Fonic Records, supporting like-minded roots artists.

Beyond recording, Deke Dickerson has contributed music to films like "Election," "Sideways," and the documentary "The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia." He has collaborated with legendary acts including the Trashmen and Nikki Hill, underscoring his versatility across genres. As an expert historian, Dickerson has penned liner notes for seminal reissues, cementing his role not just as a performer, but as a chronicler of American roots music heritage.
