About The Bird Experience

The Bird Experience is an electrifying psychedelic blues-rock and soul collective led by composer, singer, and harmonica virtuoso Mees Vullings, also known as The Bird. Their sound masterfully blends raw, swampy blues with hallucinatory psychedelia and the fiery improvisation of jazz, creating a vibrant and distinctive musical fusion that feels both primal and contemporary.

Launching their career with the powerful debut single "Canto VII" (year unspecified), recorded with a full twelve-piece ensemble, The Bird Experience captivated listeners through intense rhythms, rich harmonies, and an occult-tinged atmosphere that exudes devilish energy. Their self-titled debut album spans a broad sonic palette, from gritty, carnival-esque back-alley blues and foot-stomping funk grooves to rebellious, slow-burning anthems, all maintaining the band’s unique, hypnotic edge.

Central to their identity is Vullings’ harmonica, wielded not as a mere nod to tradition but as a commanding instrument — at times fierce and weapon-like, at others tender and soulful. Their live shows are immersive, chaotic performances where probing rhythms compel audiences into near-ritualistic movement. Even before playing their first live show, The Bird Experience attracted the attention of booking agencies and record labels, securing coveted spots at major festivals such as Roadburn and Bevrijdingsfestival. Today, The Bird Experience stands as a dynamic force in modern blues-rock, celebrated for their ability to fuse diverse influences into a compelling, ever-evolving sound.
