About Equilibrium

Equilibrium is a German band formed in 2001, originally intended for a one-time performance but quickly rising to become a seminal force in the symphonic pagan folk black metal scene. Rooted deeply in Bavarian culture, the group draws inspiration from the region’s rich traditions, including the mystique of the Black Forest and the legendary tales of the Brothers Grimm. This unique blend of folklore and metal sets Equilibrium apart, as they skillfully fuse intense black metal with symphonic and folk elements to create a powerful, melodic soundscape.

Their musical journey began with a demo released in 2003, which paved the way for increasing recognition through energetic club gigs and festival appearances. In 2005, Equilibrium debuted their full-length album, "Turis Fratyr," featuring vocalist Helge Stang, guitarists René Berthiaume and Andreas Völkl, bassist Sandra Völkl, drummer Julius Koblitzek, and guest keyboardist Armin Dörfler. This release established their signature style, intertwining heavy, atmospheric metal with traditional Bavarian motifs.

The band’s evolution continued with the 2008 album "Sagas," marking a milestone by partnering with Nuclear Blast Records and welcoming drummer Manuel DiCamillo. This album further cemented Equilibrium’s standing alongside European folk metal contemporaries like Windir, Turisas, and Eluveitie. Through their dedication to celebrating ancestral roots and folklore, Equilibrium remains a vital and enduring presence in the folk metal community.
