About Karen Clark Sheard

Karen Clark Sheard is a revered gospel singer and songwriter whose powerful voice and rich musical heritage have profoundly shaped contemporary gospel music. Born in Detroit to Reverend Elbert Clark and the esteemed choir director Mattie Moss Clark, Karen began singing with her sisters at the age of seven. She rose to fame as the youngest member of the Clark Sisters, a groundbreaking gospel group that dominated the 1980s and 1990s with their dynamic sound and influential style.

In 1997, Karen launched her solo career with the Grammy-nominated album "Finally Karen," produced by gospel luminaries including Donald Lawrence. This debut featured her daughter, Kierra "Kiki" Sheard, who has since emerged as a gospel star in her own right. Following a near-death experience, Karen released "2nd Chance" (2002), a pivotal album that marked her transition to Elektra Records. She continued to build on her success with notable albums such as "It's Not Over" (2006) and "All in One" (2010), the latter earning her a Grammy for the song "Wait on the Lord" featuring Donnie McClurkin.

Her 2015 live album "Destined to Win" became her most commercially successful work, solidifying her status as a gospel powerhouse. After reuniting with the Clark Sisters for the 2021 album "The Return" and touring in 2023, Karen released "Still Karen" (2024), reaffirming her enduring legacy in gospel music. Throughout her career, Karen Clark Sheard has maintained a deep connection to her roots while inspiring generations with her soulful artistry and vocal prowess.
