About The Weeknd

The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye in Toronto, Canada, emerged as a groundbreaking force in modern music by redefining alternative R&B with a dark, introspective edge. He first gained attention in 2010 by anonymously uploading songs to YouTube, quickly following with three critically acclaimed mixtapes in 2011: *House of Balloons*, *Thursday*, and *Echoes of Silence*. These projects, produced alongside Doc McKinney and Illangelo, combined moody, atmospheric soundscapes with raw, emotional lyrics, setting a new standard for the genre.

Early support from fellow Canadian star Drake—who featured The Weeknd on the hit “Crew Love” from the *Take Care* album—helped propel his career into the mainstream. After signing with Universal Republic, he repackaged his mixtapes into the platinum-certified album *Trilogy* (2012), which debuted at number four on the Billboard 200.

The Weeknd's commercial breakthrough peaked with *Beauty Behind the Madness* (2015), spawning chart-topping singles like “The Hills” and “Can’t Feel My Face.” This Grammy-winning album proved his ability to blend his signature darkness with accessible pop sensibilities. He continued to evolve with *Starboy* (2016), featuring high-profile collaborations with Daft Punk on hits “Starboy” and “I Feel It Coming,” and worked with artists such as Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, and Lana Del Rey.

In 2018, he surprised fans with the moody EP *My Dear Melancholy,*, returning to his shadowy roots with production from Skrillex and Mike WiLL Made-It.
