About Cowtown

Cowtown is a vibrant Leeds-based rock trio comprising David Michael Shields on drums, Hilary Knott on keybass and vocals, and Jonathan Nash on guitar and vocals. Despite their current home in Leeds, none of the members originally come from the city, each bringing a background rooted in more modest beginnings. Their music stands out with an energetic, stripped-down rock approach that draws selectively from the vast history of rock ’n’ roll. By expertly cherry-picking elements that resonate with their artistic vision, Cowtown crafts a sound that feels at once nostalgic and refreshingly modern.

Embracing a DIY ethos, the band delivers high-energy performances marked by raw intensity and melodic hooks that captivate listeners from start to finish. Their “econo” style strips away excess to focus on pure, unfiltered expression, carving a distinctive niche in the UK underground scene. This minimalist yet spirited approach allows Cowtown to honor rock’s roots while injecting fresh life and authenticity into their work, proving that simplicity and creativity can coexist without compromise.

Through dynamic live shows and a fearless commitment to their sound, Cowtown continues to build a passionate following, establishing themselves as a compelling force within contemporary rock music. Their ability to balance raw power with melodic clarity ensures their place in the evolving landscape of British rock.
