About Emmy the Great

Emmy the Great, born Emma-Lee Moss in Hong Kong to a Chinese mother and British father, grew up in rural England before emerging as a key voice in London’s early-2000s singer-songwriter scene. Her music blends introspective lyricism with delicate melodies, often drawing from her multicultural background. Emmy’s debut album, "First Love" (2009), captures the bittersweet essence of heartbreak through vivid stories set against an idealized English countryside. Building on this foundation, "Virtue" (2011) delves deeper into themes of loss and transformation, inspired by a broken engagement entwined with her former fiancé’s sudden religious awakening.

Expanding her artistic horizons, Emmy composed the soundtrack for the film "Austenland" and teamed up with Tim Wheeler of Ash for a Christmas album project. After relocating to Los Angeles and New York, she released "Second Love" (2016), produced by Ludwig Göransson and Dave McCracken. This album, featuring the single "Swimming Pool," reflects on the complexities of modern digital existence and the elusive search for meaning, earning praise from The Guardian as "an affecting portrait of a millennial lost soul." Embracing her bilingual heritage, Emmy began translating her songs into Mandarin and Cantonese, compiling these versions in the *再來的愛* EP. Beyond her music career, she is also an accomplished journalist, composer, and radio presenter, continually broadening her creative impact.

Emmy the Great remains a distinctive storyteller whose evolving sound and poetic narratives resonate across cultures and generations.
