About Neil Young

Neil Young, born in Toronto and raised in Winnipeg, stands as one of rock music’s most influential and enduring figures. After moving to Los Angeles, he first gained prominence as a member of the seminal folk-rock band Buffalo Springfield before launching a solo career in 1968. Young’s music spans a broad spectrum—from tender folk and country-rock to powerful electric guitar work—often collaborating with his longtime backing band, Crazy Horse.

His breakthrough solo albums include "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" (1969), featuring classics like "Cinnamon Girl," and "After the Gold Rush" (1970), solidifying his reputation as a formidable artist. The 1972 album "Harvest" produced his only No. 1 single, "Heart of Gold," blending mellow country sounds with reflective lyricism. Known for his creative restlessness, Young explored darker themes in albums like "On the Beach" (1974) and "Tonight’s the Night" (1975), and experimented with diverse styles—from punk influences on "Rust Never Sleeps" (1979) to electronic and rockabilly ventures in the ’80s.

Young’s influence extended into the ’90s alternative rock scene, especially through his collaboration with Pearl Jam on "Mirror Ball" (1995), earning him recognition as a godfather of grunge. In recent decades, he has remained prolific, releasing politically charged works such as "Living with War" (2006) and environmentally focused albums like "The Monsanto Years" (2015) with Promise of the Real. Beyond music, Neil Young has pioneered high-fidelity sound with the Pono project and chronicled his life in the memoir "Waging Heavy Peace" (2012). His unparalleled artistic vitality and uncompromising vision continue to shape music history.
