About Circle Jerks

Circle Jerks emerged from the South Bay punk scene of Los Angeles in 1979, quickly establishing themselves as a seminal force in hardcore punk. Founded by vocalist Keith Morris, who had previously co-founded Black Flag and contributed to their groundbreaking *Nervous Breakdown* EP, and guitarist Greg Hetson, formerly of Redd Kross, the band also featured bassist Roger Rogerson and jazz drummer Lucky Lehrer. Their sound stood out for its raw energy balanced with sharp, often sardonic lyrics and a tightly crafted yet relentless musical approach.

The band’s debut album, *Group Sex* (1980), remains a landmark in punk history, capturing their fierce spirit in just 14 rapid-fire tracks. Over the years, Circle Jerks released a total of six studio albums, cementing their reputation as hard-working pioneers of the LA punk circuit. Known for their electrifying live shows, they headlined iconic venues such as the 5,000-seat Olympic Auditorium and gained cult status through appearances in influential films like *Decline of Western Civilization* and *Repo Man*.

During various hiatuses, Morris explored other projects including OFF! and FLAG, while Hetson contributed his guitar talents to Bad Religion, maintaining their strong ties to the punk community. Celebrating their 40th anniversary, Circle Jerks reunited to mark the reissue of *Group Sex*, reaffirming their enduring impact on alternative and hardcore punk scenes of the 1980s and ’90s. Their legacy continues to inspire new generations of punk enthusiasts worldwide.
