About Mr. Bungle

Mr. Bungle is an influential experimental rock and avant-garde metal band formed in 1985 in Eureka, California, by high school friends including vocalist Mike Patton, bassist Trevor Dunn, guitarist Trey Spruance, and drummer Danny Heifetz. Named after a vintage educational film featured in a Pee Wee Herman HBO special, the group originally started as a death metal outfit. Over time, Mr. Bungle evolved their sound into a bold and eclectic fusion that seamlessly blends ska, funk, thrash, disco, and jazz, often within a single track. This genre-defying approach set them apart as pioneers of avant-garde music.

Their breakthrough came when Patton joined the band Faith No More as lead singer in 1988, which helped raise Mr. Bungle’s profile and secured them a deal with Warner Bros. Records. Their self-titled debut album released in 1991 showcased their theatrical live performances and wildly diverse style. Subsequent albums—"Disco Volante" (1995) and "California" (1999)—received critical acclaim, expanding their cult following worldwide. After disbanding in 1999, the band remained dormant for two decades.

In 2020, Mr. Bungle reunited with a revamped lineup including Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian and former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo. They re-recorded their early demo as "The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny Demo," which impressively reached No. 30 on the Billboard 200, and released the live album "The Night They Came Home," reaffirming their lasting impact on experimental and avant-garde metal music.
