About George Michael

George Michael, born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou on June 25, 1963, in East Finchley, North London, rose to prominence as one of Britain’s most influential pop icons of the 1980s. Growing up in Hertfordshire, he formed a close partnership with Andrew Ridgeley, and together they evolved from a school ska band into the legendary pop duo Wham! in 1981. Wham! quickly captivated global audiences with chart-topping hits like "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go," "Careless Whisper," and "Young Guns (Go for It)." Their 1984 album *Make It Big* propelled them to international stardom, marked notably by their historic 1985 tour of China—the first by a Western pop act.

After Wham! amicably disbanded in 1986, George Michael launched a hugely successful solo career. His debut album, *Faith* (1987), showcased his talent as a songwriter and producer, delivering multi-platinum hits such as the title track, "I Want Your Sex," and "Father Figure," selling over 20 million copies worldwide. Michael’s artistry deepened in later albums like *Listen Without Prejudice, Vol. 1* (1990), which revealed a more introspective side, and *Older* (1996), reflecting mature themes and personal growth.

Throughout his career, Michael collaborated with legends like Elton John and Aretha Franklin. His openness about his personal life, particularly after a widely publicized 1998 incident, inspired the candid track "Outside." Subsequent releases, including the covers album *Songs from the Last Century* (1999), *Patience* (2004), and the orchestral *Symphonica* (2014), affirmed his enduring versatility.
