About Simon & Garfunkel

Simon & Garfunkel, the quintessential folk-rock duo of the 1960s, began their musical journey as childhood friends Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel in Forest Hills, New York. Initially recording under the name Tom & Jerry in 1957, they scored a modest hit with "Hey Schoolgirl" before parting ways. Reuniting in the early 1960s, they embraced the folk revival, signing with Columbia Records and releasing their debut album, "Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M." (1964). Though it faced initial commercial challenges, their breakthrough arrived when producer Tom Wilson reimagined their acoustic track "The Sound of Silence" by adding electric instrumentation, propelling it to number one in 1965.

Their subsequent albums, including "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme" (1966) and "Bookends" (1968), showcased Paul Simon’s sophisticated songwriting and the duo’s signature harmonies. Hits like "Homeward Bound," "I Am a Rock," and the enduring "Mrs. Robinson"—featured prominently in the film *The Graduate*—cemented their status. Their final studio album, "Bridge Over Troubled Water" (1970), blended folk, rock, pop, and orchestral elements, including Latin rhythms, and dominated charts for ten weeks. Despite their growing individual pursuits—Simon’s solo career and Garfunkel’s acting—their sporadic reunions, notably the 1981 Central Park concert, reinforced their legacy. Today, Simon & Garfunkel remain celebrated for their elegant fusion of folk and rock, leaving an indelible mark on music history.
