About Whitesnake

Whitesnake, one of Britain’s most enduring hard rock bands, was formed in 1978 by David Coverdale, the former lead vocalist of Deep Purple. Originating from Coverdale’s solo project and his backing group originally named The White Snake Band, Whitesnake initially drew heavily on blues-infused rock influences like Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy, and Deep Purple. Early albums such as *Trouble* (1978) and *Lovehunter* (1979) showcased a raw, blues-driven sound that established their foothold in the British rock scene.

As the 1980s progressed, Whitesnake evolved by embracing the vibrant hair metal wave sweeping the rock world. Their commercial breakthrough came with *Slide It In* (1984), which set the stage for global acclaim. The band’s defining moment arrived with their 1987 self-titled album, producing chart-topping hits like "Here I Go Again" and the heartfelt ballad "Is This Love." This album achieved multi-platinum success in the U.S., cementing Whitesnake as arena rock mainstays. Guitarists such as John Sykes and later Steve Vai contributed to the band’s dynamic and evolving sound during this period.

After a hiatus in the early 1990s, Coverdale revitalized Whitesnake in 2003, revitalizing their legacy with well-received releases including *Good to Be Bad* (2008) and *Forevermore* (2011). More recent albums like *The Purple Album* (2019), a tribute to Coverdale’s Deep Purple roots, and *Flesh & Blood* (2019), which charted in the UK, underscore Whitesnake’s lasting relevance. Extensive touring and compilations such as *Love Songs* (2020) and *The Blues Album* (2021) continue to celebrate their blend of powerful rock anthems and bluesy roots, affirming Whitesnake’s significant place in hard rock and heavy metal history.
