About Juan Gabriel

Juan Gabriel, born Alberto Aguilera Valadez in 1950 in the border town of Juárez, Mexico, rose from humble beginnings as the youngest of ten siblings to become one of Latin America’s most beloved singer-songwriters. Starting his musical journey as a teenager performing under the stage name Adam Luna in local nightclubs like the iconic El Noa Noa, he began composing original songs by age 13. After moving to Mexico City and adopting the name Juan Gabriel, he gained widespread fame with his 1971 breakthrough hit "No Tengo Dinero," launching a career that spanned over four decades.

Juan Gabriel’s music uniquely blended mariachi, pop, and traditional Mexican folk, earning him six Grammy nominations and honors such as the ASCAP Songwriter of the Year Award (1995) and induction into the Billboard Latin Music Hall of Fame (1996). Beyond his own recordings, he was a prolific producer and songwriter, crafting works for stars like Rocío Dúrcal and Paul Anka, while his songs were famously covered by artists including Marc Anthony and Ana Gabriel. After resolving a significant copyright dispute in the 1990s, he returned with renewed creativity, releasing acclaimed duet albums such as "Los Dúo" and "Los Dúo, Vol. 2" (2015), which featured collaborations with Latin music icons like Juanes and Laura Pausini.

In 2016, marking 45 years in music, Juan Gabriel released "Vestido de Etiqueta por Eduardo Magallanes," a symphonic reinterpretation of his classics. His unexpected passing during a U.S. tour later that year did not diminish his vast influence, which continues to shape Latin music globally.
