About Frightened Rabbit

Frightened Rabbit, formed in Glasgow in 2003 by brothers Scott and Grant Hutchison, quickly established themselves as a standout act in the Scottish indie rock scene. Initially starting as a duo recording demos, they expanded to a trio with guitarist Billy Kennedy, and soon became known for their blend of heartfelt lyrics and clever, earnest indie rock—often compared to bands like the Vaselines and the Twilight Sad. Their debut album, "Sing the Greys" (2006), self-released before being picked up by Fat Cat Records, marked the beginning of their rise, especially after a standout performance at South by Southwest in 2007.

Over the years, the band’s lineup grew with the addition of keyboardist Andy Monaghan and guitarist Gordon Skene, which helped evolve their sound into richer, more layered territory, evidenced in albums like "Midnight Organ Fight" (2008) and "The Winter of Mixed Drinks" (2010). Signing with Atlantic Records ushered in a new creative era, highlighted by the EP "State Hospital" (2012) featuring Aidan Moffat, and the breakthrough album "Pedestrian Verse" (2013), notable for its fully collaborative songwriting process. Frontman Scott Hutchison also pursued solo work as Owl John during this time.

Their final studio album, "Painting of a Panic Attack" (2016), was produced by Aaron Dessner of The National in New York, blending introspective themes with expansive production. Tragically, Scott’s death in 2018 brought an end to Frightened Rabbit’s chapter, but the band’s legacy endures through their evocative storytelling and emotionally resonant music, securing their place as one of Scotland’s most beloved indie rock bands.
