About Paula Mattheus

Paula Mattheus is a compelling singer-songwriter from Getxo, Vizcaya, in Spain’s Basque region. Now in her late twenties, she has developed a distinctive musical identity shaped by her urban experiences and personal journey of self-discovery. Often described by critics as “a Basque woman with feelings,” Mattheus blends rock, folk, and pop influences into an authentic sound that defies simple genre labels. Her songwriting is deeply rooted in real-life experiences, exploring themes of growth, learning, and unlearning through heartfelt storytelling.

Her acclaimed album, Veintitantas primaveras (Twenty-something Springs), captures this evolution, inviting listeners to explore the emotional landscape of youth and transformation. Mattheus embraces vulnerability and honesty in her lyrics, allowing each song to function as a personal yet universally resonant narrative. While interpretations are left open to her audience, the authenticity and emotional depth of her music consistently forge strong connections.

Paula Mattheus’ evolving artistry continues to reflect the essence of contemporary Basque culture, offering songs that are both regionally grounded and widely relatable. Through her evocative melodies and sincere performances, she remains a vibrant voice in the modern Spanish singer-songwriter scene, celebrated for blending heartfelt emotion with compelling musical craftsmanship.
