About Dio

Dio, fronted by the legendary vocalist Ronnie James Dio, emerged in the early 1980s as a defining force in the heavy metal genre. Ronnie, who previously made his mark with Rainbow (1975–1978) and Black Sabbath (1979–1982), formed Dio with a powerhouse lineup including bassist Jimmy Bain, drummer Vinny Appice, and guitarist Vivian Campbell. Their 1983 debut album, "Holy Diver," was a commercial breakthrough, fueled by hits like "Rainbow in the Dark" and the title track—both bolstered by memorable MTV videos. This album showcased a blend of melodic metal and fantasy-inspired storytelling, themes that became a signature of Dio’s sound.

The band’s follow-up, "The Last in Line" (1984), introduced keyboardist Claude Schnell and cemented their status as arena headliners with elaborate live shows featuring lasers, explosions, and a massive dragon stage prop. Despite lineup shifts—most notably Campbell’s departure and replacement by Craig Goldy—Dio continued to evolve through albums such as "Dream Evil" (1987), "Lock Up the Wolves" (1990), and the darker "Strange Highways" (1994) and "Angry Machines" (1996).

In the 2000s, Dio released acclaimed records like "Magica" (2000) and "Killing the Dragon" (2002), before briefly reuniting for "Master of the Moon" (2004). Ronnie later joined Heaven & Hell, revisiting his Black Sabbath era. Sadly, Ronnie James Dio passed away in 2010 after battling stomach cancer. His extraordinary voice and theatrical style left an indelible mark on metal, solidifying Dio as one of the genre’s most influential icons.
