About TALsounds

TALsounds is the ambient solo project of Natalie Chami, an experimental musician originally from Ontario and deeply rooted in the Chicago music scene before relocating to the Washington, D.C. area. Since adopting the TALsounds moniker in 2009, Chami has crafted immersive soundscapes characterized by improvised synthesizers, looping devices, and her ethereal vocals—delivering a serene and meditative contrast to the more intense dynamics of her other bands, including the trio Good Willsmith and the duo l’éternèbre.

Chami’s early works, such as the debut cassette "Sky Face" (2013) released on Notes & Bolts, laid the groundwork for her distinctive sonic identity. She expanded her experimental approach with releases on Hausu Mountain, including the cassette "All the Way" and the collaborative "Lifter + Lighter" (2016). A notable highlight in her career was the 2016 tape "Natal Host," created exclusively using the Moog Mother-32 synthesizer, showcasing her dedication to sonic exploration.

TALsounds broke new ground with the first full-length album "Love Sick" (2017) on Ba Da Bing Records, followed by "Acquiesce" (2020) and "Shift" (2023) via NNA Tapes, albums that reflect personal growth and transformation. Throughout her evolving career, TALsounds has shared stages with acclaimed artists like Mono, Marissa Nadler, Dustin Wong, and Mind Over Mirrors, establishing Natalie Chami as a singular and joyful voice in the experimental ambient landscape.
