About The Alchemist

The Alchemist, born Alan Maman in Beverly Hills, California, rose to prominence as one of hip-hop’s most influential producers and rappers, beginning his career in the early 1990s. Initially part of the duo Whooliganz with Scott Caan, he released the single "Put Your Handz Up" (1993) under Tommy Boy Records, though their debut album, *Make Way for the W*, never saw the light of day. Early on, he sharpened his production skills alongside DJ Muggs on Cypress Hill’s *III: Temples of Boom* (1995) and developed a close collaborative relationship with Evidence of Dilated Peoples.

After moving to New York for college, The Alchemist’s career flourished through key productions on Mobb Deep’s *Murda Muzik* (1999), including tracks like "The Realest" and "Thug Music." This breakthrough opened doors to work with hip-hop heavyweights such as Ghostface Killah, Fat Joe, Royce da 5’9”, Pharoahe Monch, and Ludacris. His signature style—marked by soulful, intricate beats—also crossed genre boundaries, leading to collaborations with Linkin Park, Morcheeba, and others.

As a solo artist, The Alchemist released celebrated albums like *1st Infantry* (2004) and *Chemical Warfare* (2009), along with inventive projects including *Russian Roulette* and *Israeli Salad*. His inventive approach extended to collaborative ventures such as Gangrene’s *Vodka & Ayahuasca* (2012) with Oh No, *Albert Einstein* (2013) with Prodigy, and the video game-inspired *Welcome to Los Santos* (2015). Continuing to innovate, The Alchemist’s production has graced modern icons like Kendrick Lamar, notably on "The Heart, Pt. 4" and "FEAR." With a career spanning decades, The Alchemist remains a cornerstone of contemporary hip-hop, celebrated for crafting beats that are as soulful as they are complex.
