About The Soundtrack of Our Lives

The Soundtrack of Our Lives is a Swedish alternative rock band formed in 1995 by Ebbot Lundberg (vocals), Bjorn Olsson (guitar), and Ian Person. The trio had previously played together in the influential late-1980s band Union Carbide Productions, known for blending the raw punk energy of The Stooges with the experimental style of Captain Beefheart. However, as Lundberg became increasingly captivated by the psychedelic pop sounds of the late 1960s—particularly bands like Love—the group’s musical direction shifted, ultimately leading to their split and the birth of The Soundtrack of Our Lives.

Embracing these 1960s psychedelic influences, The Soundtrack of Our Lives forged a distinctive sound that combined vintage psych-rock textures with modern innovation, steering clear of mere retro revival. Their debut EP, "Homo Habilis Blues" (1996), was quickly followed by the full-length album "Welcome to the Infant Freebase" the same year, which established their unique style. Over the next decade, they released several critically acclaimed albums including "Extended Revelation for the Psychic Weaklings of Western Civilization" (1998), "Behind the Music" (2001)—their first widely distributed U.S. release under Universal’s Republic label—and the ambitious double album "Communion" (2008).

The band continued to expand their psychedelic rock legacy with later works such as "Throw It to the Universe" (2012), as well as retrospective compilations like "Present from the Past" (2006) and "Golden Greats No. 1" (2011). Through their inventive blending of classic influences and fresh sonic twists, The Soundtrack of Our Lives secured a lasting reputation both in Sweden and internationally as pioneers of modern psychedelic rock.
