About Imogen Ryall

Imogen Ryall has firmly established herself as a leading voice in contemporary British jazz, renowned for her expressive vocal style and innovative interpretations. In 2023, she released the critically acclaimed album "The Mingus/Mitchell Songbook" (Rubicon Classics), a heartfelt tribute that reimagines the works of jazz legend Charles Mingus and folk icon Joni Mitchell. The album earned a place on multiple independent "Best Albums of 2023" lists and showcased Ryall’s unique ability to breathe new life into classic material.

Beyond her interpretive prowess, Ryall has proven to be an accomplished lyricist, notably through her collaboration with Czech pianist and composer Emil Viklický on the album "Songs." This project highlights her depth as a songwriter and her flair for cross-cultural musical dialogue.

Ryall’s dynamic presence has brought her to some of the UK’s premier jazz venues and festivals, where she has shared the stage with respected musicians, including Julian Nicholas with the Anona Trio and Mark Edwards’ ensemble, Cloggz. Her artistry has attracted acclaim from prominent figures such as Claire Martin OBE, further cementing her reputation.

In recognition of her exceptional contributions to jazz, Imogen Ryall received dual nominations at the 2024 Parliamentary Jazz Awards for Best Vocalist and Best Album. Through her compelling performances and creative collaborations, she continues to shape the evolution of British jazz with originality and passion.
