About Clutch

Clutch is a Maryland-based rock band formed in Germantown in 1991, acclaimed for their unique blend of funk grooves, heavy metal energy, and hard rock influences, with vocals often compared to Faith No More. The core lineup—Neil Fallon (vocals), Tim Sult (guitar), Dan Maines (bass), and Jean-Paul Gaster (drums)—built a dedicated grassroots following through relentless touring and dynamic live shows.

They first gained attention with their 7" single "Passive Restraints" (1991) on Earache Records, which paved the way for their debut album, "Transnational Speedway League" (1993). Their self-titled sophomore album (1995) expanded their reach, leading to a deal with Columbia Records for "Elephant Riders" (1998). Although often grouped with alternative metal acts like Korn and Deftones, Clutch has consistently forged their own path. Albums like "Pure Rock Fury" (2001), "Blast Tyrant" (2004), and "Robot Hive/Exodus" (2005)—which introduced organist Mick Schauer—solidified their reputation for uncompromising rock craftsmanship.

Collaborating with producer Joe Barresi, they released "From Beale Street to Oblivion" (2007) and followed up with "Strange Cousins from the West" (2009). Clutch achieved their highest chart success with "Earth Rocker" (2013), driven by its powerful title track, and sustained momentum with "Psychic Warfare" (2015). Known for their gritty sound and enduring work ethic, Clutch remains a vital force in rock music, admired for blending diverse styles into a signature sound that continues to captivate listeners worldwide.
