About Ashanti

Ashanti burst onto the urban music scene in 2002, quickly establishing herself as a dominant R&B voice under the mentorship of producer Irv Gotti. Her multifaceted talent—honed through dance and acting training at the Bernice Johnson Cultural Arts Center—was evident early on, with appearances in Spike Lee’s *Malcolm X* and Disney’s *Polly* before her musical breakthrough. Ashanti rose to fame through high-profile collaborations with leading hip-hop artists like Ja Rule, Fat Joe, and the Notorious B.I.G., providing her soulful vocals on hits such as "Always on Time," "What’s Luv?," and "Unfoolish."

Her self-titled debut album (2002) made history by debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 and featured the smash single "Foolish," which topped the Hot 100 chart. Impressively, Ashanti simultaneously held three songs in the Billboard Hot 100’s Top Ten—a rare feat highlighting her widespread appeal. She sustained her momentum with *Chapter II* (2003), featuring the hit "Rock wit U (Awww Baby)," followed by *Concrete Rose* (2004) and *The Declaration* (2008), the latter showcasing collaborations with artists like Akon and Babyface.

After parting ways with Murder Inc., Ashanti expanded her career into acting and theater, notably starring as Dorothy in the 2009 production of *The Wiz* and appearing in TV shows such as *Army Wives*. She returned to music with the album *Braveheart* (2014) under eOne, continuing to blend soulful vocals with contemporary urban sounds. Ashanti remains an enduring figure in R&B, celebrated for her distinctive voice, dynamic collaborations, and ability to bridge music and acting with equal finesse.
