About I Virtuosi Italiani

Founded in Verona in 1989, I Virtuosi Italiani is a renowned chamber orchestra celebrated for its authentic performances of Baroque and Classical repertoire using period instruments. Comprising leading musicians from Italy’s foremost orchestras and conservatories, the ensemble has performed on some of the country’s most prestigious stages, including Teatro alla Scala, Accademia di Santa Cecilia, and Teatro La Fenice. Since 2006, violinist Alberto Martini has shaped the group’s artistic vision as first violinist and artistic director, with Corrado Rovaris serving as principal conductor.

I Virtuosi Italiani gained international recognition through extensive tours across Europe, South America, and the United States, as well as broadcasts on RAI Radio which broadened their global audience. Their expansive discography exceeds 100 recordings for major labels such as Sony, EMI, Naxos, and Erato. Noteworthy projects include the 2017 premiere recording of sacred motets by Johann Simon Mayr under conductor Franz Hauk, explorations of contemporary repertoire like Philip Glass’s compositions, and the 2020 Erato release "Rossini: Amici e Rivali," featuring collaborations with celebrated tenors Lawrence Brownlee and Michael Spyres. The ensemble has also partnered with distinguished soloists like flutist Massimo Mercelli and welcomed guest conductors including Antonio Ballista and Giovanni Allevi, cementing their role as leading ambassadors of Italy’s rich musical heritage.
