About Demented Are Go

Demented Are Go stands as a pioneering force in the psychobilly scene, a genre that fuses the raw rhythms of 1950s and 1960s rockabilly with the aggressive edge of early 1980s punk. Formed in 1982 in Wales by cousins Mark Phillips (known as Spark Retard) and Ant Thomas, the band carved out a distinctive identity through their energetic sound and vivid inspiration drawn from trashy horror B-movies, alongside icons like Elvis Presley and Johnny Rotten. Their name itself echoes the slogan from the cult television series Thunderbirds, hinting at their penchant for blending pop culture with rebellious flair.

Emerging alongside influential acts such as The Cramps and The Meteors, Demented Are Go helped define the psychobilly subculture with landmark albums like "In Sickness And In Health" (1986), "Kicked Out Of Hell" (1988), and "Orgasmic Nightmare" (1991). Their gritty, chaotic style not only energized underground rock but also left a lasting imprint on 1990s hardcore punk bands, including Rancid, Green Day, and Sum 41. Demonstrating remarkable longevity, Demented Are Go continued to deliver their signature psychobilly mayhem into the new millennium, releasing their eighth studio album, "Welcome Back To Insanity Hall" (2012). This enduring legacy cements their status as icons who have tirelessly championed the fusion of punk fury and rockabilly roots for over four decades.
