About Wishbone Ash

Wishbone Ash stands as one of England’s most influential hard rock bands, renowned for pioneering the distinctive twin-guitar harmony that shaped the sound of progressive rock in the early 1970s. The band’s origins date back to 1966, when drummer Steve Upton formed a group called Empty Vessels with bassist and vocalist Martin Turner and guitarist Glen Turner. After relocating to London and evolving through the name Tanglewood, the addition of guitarists Ted Turner and Andy Powell finalized the classic Wishbone Ash lineup. Their innovative blend of soul, blues, folk, and jazz influences, paired with Andy Powell’s relentless vision, carved a unique musical niche.

Wishbone Ash gained critical acclaim with their self-titled debut album (1970), followed by landmark releases such as "Pilgrimage" (1971), the seminal "Argus" (1972), and "Wishbone Four" (1973). These albums showcased a masterful balance of melodic folk textures and harder rock elements, cementing their reputation as progressive rock trailblazers. Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, the band underwent numerous lineup changes—headlined by departures and additions like Laurie Wisefield and John Wetton—while exploring new musical directions, including an experimental foray into electronic dance with "Trance Visionary" (1997) and "Psychic Terrorism" (1998).

Despite evolving personnel, Andy Powell remained the heart and soul of Wishbone Ash, securing exclusive naming rights in 2013. The band continued to honor their roots with albums like "Bona Fide" (2002), "Elegant Stealth" (2011), and "Blue Horizon" (2014). With enduring collaborations and a steadfast commitment to their signature sound, Wishbone Ash’s legacy as hard rock innovators remains steadfast, inspiring generations of musicians worldwide.
